Portland Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher for the Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support Program (Breathe) at Rowe Elementary School in Portland, Maine. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
• Masters in Special Education preferred.
• Experience in special education (including internships and field placements).
• Portland Public Schools values linguistic diversity and believes multilingual skills add value.
• Portland State/TBD endorsements or Maine State Teacher Certificate endorsements are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based specially designed instruction to students with IEPs to meet district benchmarks.
• Serve as case manager for each student, overseeing IEPs and conducting IEP meetings.
• Ensure compliance with Maine regulations and IEP timelines.
• Maintain accurate records as required by law and PPS policy.
• Support students with emotional disabilities and other health impairments.
• Collaborate with the Program Social Worker, school principals, and related service providers.
• Consult with regular education teachers regarding needs, accommodations, and modifications.
• Administer academic achievement assessments for referrals and reviews.
• Coordinate ed tech schedules to support students in mainstream classes.
• Communicate student progress with parents/guardians.
• Assist with post-secondary planning and transitions.
