Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Teacher for the Breathe Program at Lyman Moore Middle School. The role oversees IEP delivery and coordinates services with the Breathe Program Social Worker and BCBA to tailor instruction and progress toward IEP goals in both mainstream and special education settings.

You will lead IEP meetings, ensure compliance with Maine regulations, collaborate with school staff, and communicate progress to families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education required.
• Maine State Teacher Certificate endorsements (282/286) required or equivalent.
• CHRC authorization required if applicable.
• Experience with IEP development and coordination.
• PBIS or similar behavioral support experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based specially designed instruction to students with IEPs to meet district benchmarks.
• Serve as case manager for each student, overseeing IEPs and meetings.
• Ensure compliance with Maine regulations (Ch. 101) and IEP timelines.
• Maintain accurate records per PPS policies and regulations.
• Support students with Emotional Disturbances and Other Health Impairments.
• Create positive Behavior Support plans and monitor progress.
• Collaborate with Social Worker, BCBA, and school staff on instruction and accommodations.
• Advise regular education teachers on needs, accommodations, and modifications; support mainstream work.
• Administer assessments for referrals and reviews.
• Plan pathways to progress toward academic standards.
• Attend meetings, professional development, and trainings.
