Job summary

University of California - San Diego Medical Centers is seeking a Supervisor to lead the PM shift in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) at Jacobs Medical Center. You will oversee licensed sterile processing technicians and support staff, coordinate schedules, and ensure timely, compliant case trays for ORs.

Reporting to the SPD manager, you will ensure proper decontamination, sterilization, and instrument care, while maintaining department standards.

Qualifications

• Seven years of related SPD experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area plus three years of SPD experience.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, assign work, manage complex workflows, and handle competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and schedules the daily activities of central sterile staff, overseeing quality and productivity.
• Trains staff on sterile processing procedures and provides daily guidance and direction.
• Develops unit schedule ensuring staffing meets supply and service needs; coordinates with management on operations and process improvements.
• Oversees sterile supply inventory and routine equipment maintenance.
• Identifies equipment issues and determines need for service or repairs.
• Contributes to developing and improving departmental processes and participates in personnel decisions.
