Job description

Join to apply for the SPC Environmental Specialist 3 role at GAI Consultants, Inc.

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring based in the State College/Harrisburg Area within our Energy Business Unit. This position is fully remote but requires travel to project sites. The role offers an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing various assignments with minimal supervision, including:

1. Performing field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on construction projects.
2. Reviewing specifications, permits, and permit conditions related to E&S control and stormwater plans.
3. Preparing and reviewing monitoring reports based on field observations.
4. Assisting with environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests.
5. Adhering to Health and Safety requirements of GAI and its clients.
6. Maintaining QA/QC standards and following quality procedures.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with GPS devices and Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates degree in engineering/environmental/science.
• 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
• Experience with environmental due diligence and NPDES regulations.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS.
• Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting and wetland delineation.

Physical Demands

• Ability to walk over rough terrain, lift up to 50 pounds, and observe potential hazards.
