Job description

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with Field Compliance Monitoring experience, based out of State College/Harrisburg Area within our Energy Business Unit. This fully remote position requires travel to project sites and offers an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing assignments with minimal supervision, including:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performing field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on various construction projects.
2. Reviewing specifications, permits, and related plans.
3. Preparing and reviewing monitoring reports.
4. Assisting with environmental reports, permit applications, and closeout requests.
5. Adhering to Health and Safety requirements.
6. Maintaining QA/QC standards and following quality procedures.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with GPS devices and MS Office applications.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving company vehicles.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Preferred:

• Associate's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
• 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
• Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, and BMP designs.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS.
• Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting and wetland delineation.

Additional Details:

• Travel up to 75% to project sites, including overnight stays.
• Physical ability to walk in remote terrains and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to pass drug screening.

Experience & Education:

• Minimum 8+ years of experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or similar.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Leading field studies, data collection, and document preparation.
• Managing and mentoring team members if in a supervisory role.
• Engaging with agencies and interpreting regulations.
