Qualifications

Job description

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring. The position is based out of Jackson, MI; Charleston/Columbia, SC; or Richmond, VA, within our Energy Business Unit. This role is fully remote but requires travel to project sites.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing various assignments with minimal supervision, including:

  1. Performing field monitoring of erosion and sediment (E&S) controls on construction projects.
  2. Reviewing specifications, permits, and E&S control plans.
  3. Preparing and reviewing monitoring reports.
  4. Assisting with environmental reports, permit applications, and project closeouts.
  5. Adhering to health and safety requirements.
  6. Maintaining QA/QC standards and following quality procedures.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability.
  • Proficiency with GPS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
  • Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, and environmental agency guidelines.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting and wetland delineation techniques.
Additional Requirements
  • 75% travel to project sites, including overnight stays.
  • Ability to walk over unimproved terrain and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Pass a drug screening.
Educational and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or similar.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities and Skills
  • Leading field studies, data collection, and report writing.
  • Interfacing with agencies and interpreting environmental regulations.
  • Assisting with project management, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Effective communication with team members and clients.
