Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring. The position is based out of Jackson, MI; Charleston/Columbia, SC; or Richmond, VA, within our Energy Business Unit. This role is fully remote but requires travel to project sites.
The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing various assignments with minimal supervision, including:
- Performing field monitoring of erosion and sediment (E&S) controls on construction projects.
- Reviewing specifications, permits, and E&S control plans.
- Preparing and reviewing monitoring reports.
- Assisting with environmental reports, permit applications, and project closeouts.
- Adhering to health and safety requirements.
- Maintaining QA/QC standards and following quality procedures.
Qualifications
Required:
- Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability.
- Proficiency with GPS and Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
Preferred:
- Associates degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
- 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
- Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, and environmental agency guidelines.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS.
- Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting and wetland delineation techniques.
Additional Requirements
- 75% travel to project sites, including overnight stays.
- Ability to walk over unimproved terrain and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Pass a drug screening.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or similar.
- Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.

- Leading field studies, data collection, and report writing.
- Interfacing with agencies and interpreting environmental regulations.
- Assisting with project management, scheduling, and budgeting.
