How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The HSE Specialist III role is part of the Air Liquide North America (NAM) HSE support services group. This role demonstrates HSE technical and management system competencies, providing value by recommending and assisting sites with pragmatic HSE solutions. It is a remote field role supporting NAM BU facilities in advising site and regional management on HSE activities, audits, compliance, accident investigations, and solutions. The primary HSE contact for external agencies.

This position is based near the US North East, supporting facilities in upstate NY (Albany/Malta area), MA, MI, and DC. It is remote with >50% travel.

  • Support HSE activities at locations and liaise between HSE and business stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with other HSE personnel/support services for field locations.
  • Respond to emergencies with direct HSE assistance.
  • Participate in MOC review, HAZOP, and FMEAs as needed.
  • Serve as the technical HSE focal point for Emergency Action Plans and Hazard Communication.
  • Mentor and develop site safety champions.
  • Represent Air Liquide during agency inspections (EPA, OSHA, fire, county).
  • Manage external customer/regulatory contacts and address requests independently.
  • Support plant turn-around and start-up projects from an HSE perspective.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using industry-standard methods.
  • Develop and communicate business cases for proposals using data and validated info.
  • Analyze EHS data, report trends, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Interpret and apply HSE procedures, technical, and regulatory requirements pragmatically.
  • Evaluate and recommend HSE solutions considering different perspectives.
  • Perform HSE assessments and audits.
  • Manage time, priorities, and schedules effectively.
  • Lead and participate in teams to achieve HSE goals.
  • Foster shared HSE ownership through critical thinking and influence.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, adapting style as needed.
  • Seek feedback and continuously improve HSE processes.
  • Review contractor safety plans and conduct assessments.
  • Provide technical mentorship to peers.
  • Review machinery and equipment plans for safety compliance.
  • Build relationships with operational and support stakeholders for HSE system deployment.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to HSE standards development.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in HSE or STEM field required.
  • Must have valid U.S. employment authorization; no visa sponsorship needed.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance standards and risk assessment tools.
  • Experience with confined space, energy isolation, fall protection, and process safety preferred.
  • Certifications (CSP, CIH, OHST, REM, REP, etc.) preferred.
  • 7+ years of HSE operations experience in industrial gases, energy, manufacturing, or construction; advanced degree may substitute 3 years of experience.
  • Travel 50-75% as required.
