Job description

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with Field Compliance Monitoring experience. This position can be based in Jackson, MI; Charleston/Columbia, SC; or Richmond, VA, and is fully remote with travel to project sites.

The successful candidate will serve as a field lead, performing various assignments with minimal supervision, including:

1. Performing field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on construction projects.
2. Reviewing specifications, permits, and E&S control plans.
3. Preparing and reviewing monitoring reports and assisting with environmental reports and permit applications.
4. Adhering to health and safety requirements and maintaining QA/QC standards.

Qualifications

Required:

• Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with GPS devices, MS Word, Excel, and online report/database applications.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Preferred:

• Associates degree in a related field; 2-4 years of field monitoring experience.
• Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, AutoCAD, GIS, and environmental compliance.
• Knowledge of Section 401/404 permitting, wetland surveys, and delineation techniques.

Travel

• Approximately 75% travel required, including overnight stays.

Physical Demands

• Ability to walk over unimproved terrain, lift up to 50 pounds, and observe hazards during fieldwork.
• Must pass drug screening.

Additional Information

• Minimum 4+ years of experience, bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or similar.
• Technical skills include data collection, research on regulations, wetland delineation, and possibly specialization in a specific discipline.
• Teamwork and communication skills are essential.
