Job description

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in Field Compliance Monitoring. This position can be based out of Jackson, MI; Charleston/Columbia, SC; or Richmond, VA, within our Energy Business Unit. The role is fully remote but requires travel to project sites. The successful candidate will work in a challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented environment, expanding their knowledge in federal and state environmental regulations, primarily in South Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, and potentially West Virginia, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform field monitoring of erosion and sediment controls on construction projects independently.
  2. Review project specifications, permits, and related plans.
  3. Prepare and review monitoring reports based on field observations.
  4. Assist with environmental reports, permit applications, and project closeout documents.
  5. Adhere to health and safety standards of GAI and its clients.
  6. Maintain QA/QC standards and follow GAI’s Quality Management System.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with GPS devices and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass screening for driving GAI vehicles.
  • Flexibility to travel, including long distances and overnight stays.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of field monitoring experience, especially in E&S control.
  • Experience with environmental due diligence, NPDES regulations, AutoCAD, GIS, and environmental compliance.
Additional Details
  • 75% travel to project sites, including overnight stays.
  • Physical ability to walk in terrain, lift up to 50 pounds, and identify hazards.
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Technical expertise in wetland delineation, ecological surveys, endangered species, and related disciplines.
  • Team collaboration, schedule and budget management, and effective communication skills.
