Job summary

Chapman University is seeking a Part-Time Bilingual Research Assistant to support an NIH-funded pediatric asthma study. You will assist with recruitment, screening, enrollment, and study coordination for adolescents and their families.

The role involves reviewing medical records, obtaining consent/assent, scheduling visits, maintaining databases, and ensuring confidential data management. 10 hours weekly, with evenings and one weekend day as needed.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of prior research experience or exposure to research methods.
• Conversational fluency in English and Spanish; no specialized medical terminology required.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with families.
• Comfortable speaking with participants by telephone in Spanish.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

Responsibilities

• Review electronic medical records to identify potentially eligible adolescent patients with asthma.
• Contact caregivers by telephone to introduce the study and assess interest.
• Explain study procedures to caregivers and adolescent participants.
• Obtain informed consent from caregivers and assent from adolescents.
• Schedule study visits and coordinate participant enrollment.
• Assist with additional research activities as needed.
• Meet with research team members.
