Job summary

JPS Health Network is seeking an Interpreter I (Spanish) PRN to support patient experience at John Peter Smith Hospital. The role provides language access services to LEP patients and families, translating financial, demographic, medical information, and health education from Spanish to English and vice versa.

The position emphasizes patient safety and satisfaction, requires passing the department competency test, and may involve night and weekend shifts in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• 2+ years customer service experience with oral interpretation experience, preferably in a medical environment.
• Associates degree preferred.
• Must successfully pass Language Services competency test with score of 90% or greater.
• 40-hour medical interpreter training or certification preferred.
• National board medical interpreter certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts effectively with peers, medical staff, patients and families to promote patient-centered care.
• Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
• Assist LEP persons with linguistic, safety, medication, and systemic concerns; refer concerns as needed.
• Faithfully interpret information between source and target languages without adding or omitting details.
• Document interpreter encounters in the Epic system and distribute program information in targeted languages.
