Job summary

Penn State Health, St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA, seeks an interpreter to support patients, families, staff, and physicians with consents, treatments, discharges, and instructions. The role includes translating documents between English and Spanish and may extend to other languages as needed.

The interpreter assists the Manager in addressing communication needs and improving services for limited English-speaking patients, ensuring accurate and compassionate care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology required.
• Must be able to clearly communicate instructions, questions, and answers in both English and target language based on the patient, family member, or employees preferred language

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreter services for patients, families, staff, visitors, physicians, and others regarding consents, medical treatments, discharges, instructions, and other interpreting needs.
• Translate documents from English/Spanish, Spanish/English, and potentially other languages.
• Assist the Manager in solving patient and family communication needs and identify opportunities to improve services for limited or non-English speaking patients.
