Job summary

Intermountain Healthca re Inc. seeks a PRN Medical Interpreter to provide consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation for patients, families and staff across Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services.

The role requires excellent command of medical terminology, cultural mediation, and strict HIPAA compliance. Travel between care sites with flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, is expected.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written command of both source and target languages to professional proficiency with healthcare terminology.
• Pre-hire skills assessment completed.
• Consecutive, simultaneous and Sight Translation with high accuracy in both languages.
• Fast-paced, high-pressure environment with ability to multi-task.
• Interpersonal communication skills to work in a team and independently.
• Certificate of completion from a 40-hr Professional Medical Interpreter course.

Responsibilities

• Interpret medical and general information with high accuracy in multiple translation modes.
• Interpret complex medical information with terminology knowledge.
• Act as a cultural mediator ensuring accurate exchange in proper context.
• Adhere to ethics and HIPAA standards and relevant civil rights laws.
• Manage time and provide ETA for interpretation tasks; refer to phone/video interpretation as needed.
• Use computer and maintain records across platforms; ensure data consistency.
• Translate written material accurately and timely.
