Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Materials & Processes Engineer to join the Engines team in Huntsville. The role focuses on identifying materials and processes to improve manufacturability of liquid rocket engine hardware, developing and qualifying them for production, and ensuring repeatable, safe, and high-quality results in line with aerospace standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years experience in Material and Process Engineering application in the aerospace industry
• Experience with Ni-, Cu-, Al-, Ti-based alloys and oxygen-compatible alloys in aerospace
• Hands-on experience with high-temperature materials in spacecraft/engine/related applications
• Proven experience developing and executing test plans for material analysis and qualification
• Knowledge of metallic material processing (forgings, castings, extrusions, hydroforming)
• Knowledge of environmentally-assisted degradation and standard testing methods for metals

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and select metallic materials for usage in liquid rocket engines considering mechanical/thermal properties
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to integrate material and process requirements into designs
• Ensure specialized processes have controls for repeatable manufacturing
• Act as Materials & Processes signatory for engineering drawings for rocket engines
• Perform development and qualification testing for metallic materials
• Generate documentation for material and process specifications for producibility
• Provide technical support and disposition of nonconformances in material/process control
• Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends in liquid rocket engine materials
