Job summary

Sierra Space is seeking a Guidance, Navigation & Controls Engineer II to contribute to the design, analysis, and implementation of advanced GNC systems for spacecraft. This mid-level role emphasizes dynamic modeling, algorithm design, and simulation analysis, with independence on complex tasks and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities include developing GNC algorithms, Monte Carlo simulations, and autonomous mode transitions, plus programming simulations in SIMULINK and STK.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering or related field; equivalent work experience accepted.
  • 2+ years of experience in dynamic modeling and GNC algorithm design.
  • Strong proficiency in SIMULINK and STK; familiarity with C, C++, Python; version control with GIT/SVN.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GNC algorithms and at least one area of guidance, navigation, control, or FDIR.
  • Understanding of IMUs, GPS, star trackers, RCS, reaction wheels, magnetic torquers, CMGs and LIDAR.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and implement advanced GNC systems for spacecraft applications.
  • Develop and evaluate GNC algorithms, Monte Carlo simulations, and autonomous mode transitions.
  • Program and optimize simulations using SIMULINK and STK; model GNC sensors and actuators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system performance and compliance.
  • Validate functionality in target test simulation environments and document findings.
