Job summary

Sierra Space is seeking a Guidance, Navigation & Controls Engineer II to design, analyze, and implement advanced GNC systems for spacecraft applications. This mid-level role emphasizes dynamic modeling, algorithm design, and simulation analysis, with independence on complex tasks and cross-functional collaboration to ensure performance and requirements compliance.

You will develop, implement, and evaluate GNC algorithms, simulate with SIMULINK and STK, and analyze sensors/actuators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of dynamic modeling and GNC algorithm design experience.
  • Proficiency in SIMULINK and STK; familiarity with C, C++, Python; experience with version control tools such as GIT/SVN.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GNC algorithms; experience designing at least one GNC algorithm (guidance, navigation, control or FDIR).
  • Understanding of IMUs, GPS, star trackers, RCS, Reaction Wheels, Magnetic Torquer Bars, CMGs and LIDAR.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate GNC algorithms for spacecraft applications.
  • Program and optimize simulations using SIMULINK and STK; model GNC sensors/actuators.
  • Run Monte Carlo simulations and perform in-depth analysis to improve system performance.
  • Analyze autonomous GNC mode transitions and ensure reliability; own performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with GNC flight software teams in test simulation environments and document findings.
