Job summary

Sierra Space seeks a Guidance, Navigation & Controls Engineer III to lead the design, development, and validation of advanced GNC systems for spacecraft. You will own key aspects, run Monte Carlo simulations, and perform HITL testing while mentoring junior engineers and driving aerospace innovation.

Required skills include SIMULINK, State Flow, Python, C++, and a deep understanding of IMUs, GPS, LIDAR, and Air Data Systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Master's degree preferred for candidates with 3+ years of experience
• 5+ years of related experience in dynamic modelling and GNC algorithm design
• Advanced skills in SIMULINK, State Flow, Python, and C++ programming, with experience in SIMULINK auto coding and Linux/UNIX
• Strong understanding of IMUs, GPS, LIDAR, and Air Data Systems, with high-fidelity model development
• Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility U.S. Security Clearance is required

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and validation of GNC systems for spacecraft applications
• Perform Monte Carlo simulations and HITL testing
• Mentor junior engineers and drive innovation in aerospace technology
• Develop high-fidelity models for GNC sensors/actuators (IMUs, GPS, LIDAR, Air Data)
• Conduct open-loop and closed-loop stability analyses and manage GNC modes during flight phases
• Integrate requirements into detailed GNC algorithm designs and ensure compliance with system-level objectives
