Job summary

Amentum, a leading engineering partner for NASA and Johnson Space Center, is seeking a Technical, Maintenance, and Operations Section Manager. You will lead a large, multidisciplinary technician team and oversee maintenance, safety, and testing operations critical to deep-space missions.

You will develop resource plans, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with EEO and CBA requirements while coordinating with division leadership and project managers to deliver mission objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and typically 5–10 years of related experience.
• BS in Engineering with at least 10 years of direct engineering experience; MS 13 years; PhD 9 years.
• Proven ability to develop cost estimates, manage risk registers, and present technical performance data to client and leadership.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Project and integrated scheduling tools.
• Demonstrated leadership in facility and manufacturing oversight.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and operate with autonomy.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication with internal leadership and external customers.
• Comprehensive knowledge of safety and health standards and hazard mitigation.
• Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking ability.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Full-time, on-site presence at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) required.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations through supervisors and a 60+ technician team across multiple disciplines.
• Ensure readiness of thermal vacuum chambers and space environment systems through preventive maintenance.
• Forecast resources and secure personnel, equipment, and materials for testing.
• Manage technician certification programs and ongoing training.
• Maintain safety culture and drive reductions in incidents through coaching and HSE involvement.
• Lead root cause analyses using Six Sigma tools and implement corrective actions.
• Manage section budgets and support strategic planning.
• Mitigate operational risks and review safety deliverables to prevent downtime.
• Lead communication with EC Division leadership and project managers.
