Job summary

Blue Origin in California is seeking an experienced space safety modeler to join the Integrated System Modeling team. You will build and maintain quantitative MMOD, demise, and collision models that inform design, regulatory filings, and system-level trades across spacecraft, propulsion, power, and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, astrodynamics, physics, or related field.
• 5+ years in orbital debris analysis or spacecraft survivability with hands-on modeling.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python for engineering analysis.
• Experience with MMOD environment models (e.g., ORDEM) and spacecraft risk assessment.
• Knowledge of re-entry demise analysis and collision probability methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop, own, and maintain MMOD environment and impact risk models.
• Develop demise and re-entry survivability models and regulatory compliance assessments.
• Develop collision probability models and conjunction assessment tools at constellation scale.
• Build and maintain tools in MATLAB and/or Python with version control.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to translate model outputs into design requirements.
• Support regulatory submissions with underlying analytical results and model descriptions.
• Integrate space safety models within the Integrated System Model.
• Perform trade studies on constellation design choices.
• Develop space traffic density and long-term debris environment models.
• Ensure reproducibility and rapid trade studies as design evolves.
