Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced space safety analyst to develop MMOD models and evaluate debris, collision, and demise risks for a large LEO constellation. You will build and validate tools in MATLAB/Python, support regulatory filings, and collaborate across engineering teams to inform design choices.

The role emphasizes quantitative predictions, model documentation, and contribution to architecture studies and tradeoffs for spacecraft, propulsion, and operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in aerospace, astrodynamics, physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years in orbital debris analysis or related disciplines with hands-on modeling.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python for scientific computing.
  • Familiarity with MMOD environment and debris models (e.g., ORDEM).
  • Understanding of re-entry demise analysis and aerothermal modeling.
  • Knowledge of conjunction assessment and covariance-based Pc estimation.
  • Ability to document methods and results for regulatory submissions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and maintain MMOD environment and impact risk models.
  • Develop demise and re-entry survivability models and risk estimates.
  • Develop collision probability models and full-constellation tools.
  • Build and maintain MATLAB/Python tools with version control.
  • Perform MMOD-driven failure mode analysis on key systems.
  • Support regulatory submissions with model descriptions and results.
  • Integrate space safety models with broader system models.
  • Conduct trade studies on constellation design and debris impact.
  • Develop space traffic density and long-term debris models.
  • Collaborate with spacecraft, propulsion, power, thermal, and GNC teams.
