Job summary

General Astronautics is seeking Mechanical Engineering Interns for Spring 2027. You will design, build, and test robotic hardware, moving between design, manufacturing, assembly, and experiments to support a flight-ready system.

You should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, CS, or math, with strong hands-on experience, good GPA, and the ability to work on-site in El Segundo for at least 12 weeks. Compensation is $30–$35/hour for Sophomore to Senior interns.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in engineering, physics, CS, or math.

Responsibilities

• Own a mechanism or subassembly from requirements through testing.
• Develop CAD models and drawings with materials, tolerances, and assembly processes.
• Perform hand calculations and basic FEA to validate designs.
• Build prototypes, test fixtures, and instrumentation to evaluate hardware.
• Write test plans, analyze results, and iterate designs.
• Support qualification testing for flight hardware.
• Produce BOMs, drawings, and assembly documentation.
