Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Spring 2027 at our Silver Spring, MD site. You will support flight mechanism development for separation systems and work with a mentor to translate classroom knowledge into real hardware projects.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an engineering, physics, or math program with at least one semester remaining, GPA 3.0+, and 3–6 months of applied engineering experience. CAD/CAM and GD&T knowledge are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree program in an engineering, physics or math discipline and have at least one semester of school remaining post internship.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and personal/team project experience is applicable).
• GPA of 3.5 or above (nice to have).
• 6+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and personal/team project experience is applicable).
• Experience using CAD/CAM.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Machining.

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge to real engineering challenges within the Space Systems Division.
• Work with mentors to develop and deliver projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Attend frequent 1:1s with mentors and supervisors and report progress.
• Engage in tech talks and networking events with interns and employees.
