Job summary

Blue Origin, based in the Seattle area, seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead architecture for space-based networking software. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams, drive real-time embedded development on Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal, and shape the design of the TeraWave constellation.

Travel up to 10% may be required. Role requires 7+ years in embedded software, strong C/C++ skills, and experience with high-speed data interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of embedded software development in C/C++ on Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal.
• Strong proficiency in C++ OO design and implementation.
• Hands-on debugging with SW/HW tools (JTAG, SWD, CoreSight, Lauterbach/Trace32, J-Link, J-Trace).
• Experience with Linux networking and high-speed data-plane interfaces (Ethernet, Interlaken, JESD, DMA/RDMA, RoCE).
• Experience leading software teams and mentoring engineers.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and design for one or more system areas; lead cross-team discussions and prototype options.
• Collaborate with hardware, silicon, and systems teams; lead integration and troubleshooting campaigns.
• Lead multi-threaded embedded software development in C/C++ on Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal on multi-core SoCs.
• Define scaling, fault-tolerance, and recovery strategies.
• Set KPIs and optimize compute, memory, storage, and I/O resources.
• Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and system decisions.
• Champion embedded software testing practices including CI/CD, testing automation, and TDD.
• Mentor a high-skilled team and drive engineering excellence.
