Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead embedded software architecture for space-based systems. You will guide multi-core SoC software, collaborate across hardware and systems teams, and drive real-time, high-speed data handling in constrained environments.

You will mentor engineers, champion CI/CD and testing best practices, and help shape the control and data plane software for the TeraWave constellation. This onsite role offers relocation support and travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years embedded software development in C/C++ for Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal.
• Strong proficiency in C++ OO design and implementation.
• Hands-on debugging with SW/HW tools (JTAG, SWD, CoreSight, Lauterbach/Trace32, J-Link, J-Trace).
• Experience with Linux networking and high-speed data-plane interfaces (Ethernet, Interlaken, JESD), DMA/RDMA, RoCE.
• Experience leading software teams and mentoring senior engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. citizen/national or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Own software architecture and design for system areas and participate in cross-team discussions with chief architects.
• Collaborate with hardware, silicon and systems engineering to integrate features and troubleshoot problems.
• Lead the design and implementation of multi-threaded embedded software on Linux/RTOS/Bare-metal for multi-core SoCs.
• Define strategies for scaling, fault-tolerance and recovery.
• Define KPIs and develop measurement/optimization methods for compute, memory, storage, network and I/O.
• Contribute to documentation, code reviews, and system decisions.
• Champion embedded software development, testing, CI/CD, and data analysis automation.
• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
