Job summary

The Cypress of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC is seeking a talented Sous Chef to join its upscale culinary team. This role offers a fast-paced fine dining environment with opportunities to lead a skilled staff and contribute to innovative menus.

You will supervise daily kitchen operations, ensure quality and portions, manage food costs, and coordinate catering and events while maintaining health and safety standards. The position includes a generous benefits package and a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Two to three years’ fine dining kitchen experience.
• Supervisory experience required.
• ServSafe certification required.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily kitchen operations and supervise culinary team.
• Oversee kitchen in the Executive Chef's absence.
• Ensure quality, presentation, and portions meet standards.
• Support menu development, cost, purchasing, inventory, and planning.
• Coordinate catered events and daily service execution.
• Maintain a clean, safe kitchen meeting health standards.
• Drive continuous improvements and staff development.
• Foster hospitality-focused service and guest satisfaction.

Schedule: Flexible to work various shifts (5:45am-2:15pm, 7:45am- 4:00pm, 12:30pm-9:00pm)

Pay: $22 - $26 per hour, depending on experience, including a $5,000 SIGN-ON BONUS

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in leading daily kitchen operations and supervising culinary team members.
• Oversee kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef.
• Ensure all menu items meet established standards for quality, presentation, and portion control.
• Support menu development, food costing, purchasing, inventory management, and production planning.
• Coordinate catered events, special functions, and daily service execution.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment that meets or exceeds health department standards.
• Monitor operational performance, communicate issues and improvement opportunities to leadership, and support continuous process enhancement.
• Foster a positive team culture through effective leadership, collaboration, and staff development.
• Promote exceptional resident and guest satisfaction through outstanding hospitality and culinary excellence.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.

Qualifications:

• Two to three years’ experience in a hotel, restaurant, or club with fine dining preferred.
• Two to three years' experience in a supervisory role.
• Culinary education is highly desirable.
• Must be ServSafe® Certified.
• Ability to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance. Some knowledge of nutrition and diet.
• Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
