Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research institution located on the scenic North Shore of Long Island, is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Sous Chef to join our culinary team.

Position Responsibilities
  1. Prepare hot & cold food as directed by chef(s).
  2. Follow proper sanitation procedures.
  3. Perform a secure close-up of work area/facility at the end of a shift/work day.
  4. Maintain cooking equipment.
  5. Provide support to the General Dining & Events Chef, including:
    1. Providing consumption information;
    2. Providing input on seasonal cook staff performance.
  6. Manage food prep workload.
  7. Provide purchasing information to the Purchasing Manager.
  8. Assist in supervision of cook staff.
  9. Follow recipes.
  10. Produce and prepare food for all required menus.
  11. Adhere to sanitation guidelines.
  12. Stand in for chefs during their absence.
  13. Interact courteously with clientele, fellow employees, and other supervisors.
Position Requirements

Education: Culinary education helpful.

Experience: Five years' cooking experience in restaurant, catering, and/or hotel.

Other: Sanitation Certificate required. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is helpful. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate for this role is $20.52-$23.07. The listed rate is a good faith estimate and may be adjusted based on experience and other factors.
