Job description

At Soho House, a Sous Chef is motivated to positively influence the kitchen team to follow the direction of the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef in planning, organizing, and managing the Kitchen Department according to company policies and standards. As the Sous Chef, your duties will include recruiting and training new employees, adhering to allergy procedures and food preferences, and working with the Executive Chef on developing new menu options.

A successful Sous Chef is a strong communicator, organized, and demonstrates in-depth knowledge of various cuisines, stations, cooking styles, ingredients, equipment, and processes. We seek an operationally creative professional with strong leadership and management experience who is passionate about food and dedicated to delivering exceptional dining experiences through their culinary creations.

Main Duties
  1. Lead by example and collaborate with the Executive Chef to ensure effective and efficient dining experiences by overseeing back of house operations, staffing, food production, accommodating special requests, dietary restrictions, and adhering to allergy procedures.
  2. Maintain Health and Safety standards set by Soho House, local, and regional authorities.
  3. Establish professional relationships with the team and provide educational opportunities to develop skills across the business.
  4. Support 'Cook House' education and training demos, trips, and on-the-job staff development to promote safe work habits and proper procedures, especially in unsafe situations.
  5. Ensure the kitchen operates effectively and efficiently while maintaining the highest food quality and control standards for all dishes served.
  6. Manage staff schedules, payroll, kitchen setup and breakdown, production, and staff uniforms, ensuring disciplinary procedures are followed when necessary.
  7. Foster teamwork and synergy between front and back of house staff through proper communication and task delegation to ensure smooth service and operations.
Required Skills/Qualifications
  1. Minimum of 3-4+ years’ experience in a high-volume, culturally diverse culinary environment producing consistent, approachable, and elevated dishes.
  2. Culinary training and professional passion for growth as a Chef.
  3. Experience managing P&L, labor, purchasing, vendors, and quality control to drive revenue results.
  4. Stable work history and a desire to support the business both operationally and as a leader.
  5. Food Serve Safe certification and familiarity with local sanitation regulations.
  6. Proficient in professional email etiquette, written, and verbal communication.
  7. Experience in training and leading teams, with expertise in large-scale food production and quality operations.
  8. High school diploma or equivalent trade certification.
Physical Requirements
  1. Ability to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  2. Ability to work on your feet for at least 8 hours.
  3. Capability to move quickly between different areas of the club.
  4. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing at least 40 pounds.
  5. Occasional kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing as needed.
