Sourcing Engineer – Strategic Procurement

Full-time 22960 Venture Dr, Novi, MI 48375

Automotive, Electric Vehicles (EV), Industrial Automation

We are looking for a Sourcing Engineer – Strategic Procurement to drive end-to-end sourcing across our automotive and industrial automation programs — qualifying suppliers, negotiating cost-competitive contracts, and securing the material availability that keeps programs on schedule. A hands-on, data-driven role for a procurement professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering requirements, supplier capability, and cost optimization.

Role Overview

Own the strategic sourcing lifecycle — from supplier identification and evaluation through negotiation, PO execution, and performance management — partnering with engineering, operations, and finance to deliver the right part, at the right cost, at the right time across active programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end procurement: supplier sourcing, evaluation, qualification, and performance management
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and pricing agreements that deliver cost savings without compromising quality or delivery
  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for direct and indirect materials across programs
  • Analyze market trends, supplier pricing, and internal demand data to guide sourcing decisions
  • Run RFQ/RFP events and build should-cost and total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) models
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems (Syteline, Vista, or similar) to optimize inventory levels and reduce stockouts
  • Monitor supplier KPIs: on-time delivery, PPM/quality, cost, and corrective-action closure
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations to ensure material availability and production continuity
  • Drive cost-reduction and value-engineering (VA/VE) initiatives with cross-functional teams
  • Support supplier onboarding, contract management, and compliance documentation
  • Support new program launches with early supplier involvement and long-lead-item planning
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or an equivalent combination of experience and results
  • 5+ years in strategic sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment (automotive/aerospace a plus)
  • Proven track record negotiating vendor contracts and delivering measurable cost savings
  • Hands-on ERP/MRP experience (Syteline, Vista, FileMaker, or similar) for purchasing and inventory control
  • Strong data-analysis skills: advanced Excel, Power BI, and Access
  • Working knowledge of quality/compliance standards: ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100
  • Experience managing supplier performance and collaborating across engineering, operations, and finance
  • APICS/CPIM, CPSM, or Lean/Six Sigma certification a plus
  • Negotiation-first mindset: secures cost, quality, and delivery simultaneously
  • Data-driven sourcing: builds cost models and reads market and demand signals
  • Cross-functional collaborator: engineering, operations, finance, and quality
  • Detail-oriented and organized: manages POs, contracts, and lead times without slippage
  • Proactive problem-solver: prevents shortages before they reach the line
  • ERP-fluent and process-driven: keeps procurement data clean and auditable
  • Supplier relationship builder: develops a reliable, high-performing supply base
  • Self-driven and adaptable in a fast-paced, globally distributed team
