Business Developer / Sales Development Representative

The Solution Sales Executive will be responsible for driving growth in our Employer business. This role requires an understanding of healthcare and financial services, with a proven track record in sales. Success in this role requires understanding the competitive landscape, navigating the consultant and broker community, and the ability to drive success. The Solution Sales Executive is accountable for an assigned territory and the sales partners within that market.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Cultivate, develop, deepen, and strengthen relationships with consultants and brokers in an assigned territory.
  • Market Health Benefit Accounts to employers through assigned distribution channels.
  • Build, nurture, and grow consultative relationships with key employer clients to understand their strategy and business needs. Constantly assess the value that Optum Financial solutions are delivering.
  • Work with team members across the matrix to develop approaches that increase the value we provide and the impact UnitedHealth Group overall has on the clients’ business.
  • Drive and deliver a value story consistent with the client strategy. Present the value of Optum Financial solutions to various levels within the client, including executives, decision-makers, and key influencers. This may include on-site or virtual meetings.
  • Influence external customers at the VP & C-Suite level as a trusted executive partner.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of sales development or business development experience, including calling on decision-makers and economic buyers.
  • 5+ years of sales and marketing experience, including growing a business or portfolio of clients/distribution partners within the health insurance/financial services industry.
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Office suite and CRM (e.g., Salesforce).
  • 5+ years of experience with CDH programs (HSA/HRA/FSA), wellness programs, COBRA, investments.
  • Ability to travel frequently — approximately 50%.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working across UHG, Optum, and/or UHC lines of business.
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth.
  • Successful experience building relationships with internal C-suite and stakeholder teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Location preferred in Illinois or Michigan (major states within the assigned territory).

The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $160,000 annually, based on full-time employment, with potential bonuses based on sales performance. Compensation is influenced by factors such as location, education, experience, and certifications. UnitedHealth Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive programs, equity stock purchase, and 401(k) contributions, among others.
