Job summary

Snohomish County is seeking motivated individuals for the Solid Waste Laborer I role at transfer stations across the county. This training position develops toward Solid Waste Laborer II certification, with day shifts, variable weekends, and potential overtime.

Responsibilities include directing traffic, assisting customers, operating basic waste-handling equipment, maintaining areas, and logging transactions in scale systems, while meeting safety and performance standards.

Qualifications

• Must pass job-related tests.
• Valid Washington Driver’s License required.
• Ability to perform manual labor including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Directs incoming and departing vehicles to/from unloading areas at a transfer station or landfill.
• Enforces safety rules and regulations; may assist customers unloading vehicles.
• Provides information to customers regarding disposal and recycling procedures and fees.
• Cleans and sweeps unloading area; performs facility maintenance tasks such as mowing and raking leaves.
• Operates equipment and assists in moving and positioning trailers.
• Inspects and maintains equipment and related systems.
• Maintains equipment service records and logs transactions in scale systems.
• Drives light vehicles to collect supplies and recyclables.
• Identifies hazardous wastes and coordinates pickups as needed.
