Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking an Engineer, Development - WEST to design and engineer utility-scale PV and BESS projects in early-stage development across the West region. You will coordinate internal resources for layouts, interconnection, and preliminary cost estimates to shape project concepts.

The role requires direct PV/BESS design experience, strong communication, and the ability to work in a distributed team. Location may be AES US Renewables & Power offices or remote, with up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical or mechanical) or equivalent field.
• 3+ years professional experience in energy system design or consulting.
• Proficiency with PVsyst, Solar Farmer, SAM, and AutoCAD.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Self-starter with ability to work in remote/distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary plant designs, site layouts, and single-line diagrams with CAD and interconnection teams.
• Select primary equipment based on site conditions, utility requirements, and project schedule.
• Model energy production and battery dispatch.
• Conduct site evaluations (remote and in-person) for technical feasibility.
• Support internal estimating, development and commercial teams on pricing and value engineering.
