Job summary

The AES Corporation is seeking a Principal Engineer for Utility Projects to lead engineering for large-scale PV and battery storage developments. You will manage third parties, review designs, develop procurement specs, and support field operations.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in energy system design, strong cross-functional skills, and a track record of delivering complex projects. Remote work is available with up to 25% travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or civil) or equivalent.
• 10+ years in energy system design, project/land development, and/or construction.
• 5+ years in project management or as a project engineer.
• Experience in utility-scale PV and BEESS electrical design.
• Stormwater and grading expertise with permitting knowledge.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Support EPC engagement by preparing contract exhibits and RFIs during negotiations.
• Evaluate engineering service proposals and manage consultants and EPC contractors.
• Lead technical design reviews and coordinate feedback from SMEs.
• Value engineer designs to improve reliability and reduce costs.
• Develop technical specs for owner-furnished equipment with procurement.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, and QA/QC activities across projects.
• Support commissioning and operations teams with technical input.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements.
