Job summary

Placements24 in Upington, Northern Cape seeks a Field Service Technician to install, maintain and repair solar PV systems across residential, commercial, and utility-scale projects. The role requires travel within the region and on-site work to ensure optimal system performance.

You will diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, and educate customers on operation and safety. A technical background and 3+ years in PV field service are essential.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification or certification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Service Technician, specifically with Solar PV systems.
• Proven ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair PV systems and associated components (inverters, batteries).
• Strong understanding of electrical principles and safety protocols.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and multimeters.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and travel regularly within the region.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Must be willing and able to work full-time, on-site in and around Upington, Northern Cape.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, and mounting structures.
• Conduct system diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure system longevity and efficiency.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Ensure all installations and repairs comply with safety standards, building codes, and company policies.
• Manage inventory of parts and equipment required for service calls.
• Document all service activities, including work performed, parts used, and time spent.
• Provide technical assistance and educate customers on system operation and maintenance.
• Respond to emergency service calls as needed.
• Collaborate with the engineering and project management teams on system improvements.
