Job summary

Placements24 is supporting a leading renewable energy client in Welkom, Free State, seeking a Field Installation Engineer. You will lead on-site solar PV installations, perform site assessments, and ensure safety, quality, and efficiency during deployment and commissioning.

The role requires a technical degree, 3–5 years of hands-on solar installation experience, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and willingness to travel to site locations in the region and beyond.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years hands-on installation experience on solar PV or complex electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, wiring diagrams, and building codes.
• Experience with mounting systems and solar installations.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Welkom, Free State region and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the physical installation of solar PV systems, including mounting structures, panels, inverters, and associated electrical components.
• Conduct site assessments to determine optimum system design and installation parameters.
• Perform electrical wiring and connections, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards.
• Commission and test newly installed systems, verifying performance against design specifications.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues during installation or post-installation checks.
• Maintain safety and health protocols during all installations.
• Provide technical guidance and support to installation teams and apprentices.
• Maintain project documentation including installation reports and test results.
• Liaise with project managers and clients to ensure smooth execution and satisfaction.
• Stay updated on renewable energy technology and installation best practices.
