Job summary

RWE Americas, LLC is seeking a Solar Farm Technician II in California to safely install, operate, maintain, and repair solar systems. You will diagnose issues, analyze SCADA data, and coordinate with engineers while ensuring strict safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires hands-on electrical/mechanical expertise, the ability to work outdoors in various weather, and occasional travel to sites. On-call availability and strong teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree or certification in renewable energy technology or electrical systems preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years of relevant technical experience in renewable energy preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions.
• Strong working knowledge of solar PV systems, including inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, LBDs and SCADA systems.
• Independently perform preventive and corrective maintenance with minimal supervision.
• Troubleshoot and resolve moderate technical issues, including inverter and performance faults.
• Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Apply safety protocols, hazard assessments, and LOTO procedures in compliance with OSHA standards.
• Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel to assigned job sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform solar operations and maintenance safely using site procedures, JHAs, and LOTO practices.
• Demonstrate proactive safety leadership by identifying hazards and coaching team members.
• Ensure compliance with EH&S requirements and correct non-compliant conditions.
• Diagnose, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair solar PV systems to ensure reliability.
• Analyze SCADA data and alarms to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with Site Leads, Site Managers, and Engineers to resolve high-risk issues.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance optimizing efficiency.
• Lead inspections, testing, and commissioning to verify performance and standards.
• Maintain SAP work orders and inspection records for compliance and audits.
• Mentor Associate and Trainee technicians with hands-on guidance and safety coaching.
• Operate in on-call capacity with prompt response and readiness.
