Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Software Engineer SME to maintain and extend the ServiceNow platform across multiple tenants. The role requires deep ServiceNow development experience, strong communication, and the ability to work both independently and with teams in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates hold TS/SCI with polygraph and a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with 5+ years of hands-on ServiceNow experience.

Qualifications

• 16+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s or master’s degree
• Minimum of five years hands-on developing ServiceNow products
• Current ServiceNow CSA certification preferred
• Strong communication and written/oral skills; able to work independently or in a team

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance the core ServiceNow platform for multiple tenants.
• Develop, test, and deploy ServiceNow updates per customer requirements.
• Configure applications and workflows, rolling out new modules.
• Collaborate with ServiceNow System Engineers and developers on solutions.
• Ensure environments are reliable and reproducible across all stages.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Software Engineer SME: $170,000 to $200,000.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Software Engineer SME Responsibilities Include:

• Maintain and enhance the core ServiceNow platform by adding new capabilities to improve functionality for various tenants.
• Develop, test, and deploy ServiceNow updates based on customer requirements.
• Customize and configure ServiceNow applications, facilitating the rollout of new applications and modules; including configuring the Application User Interface and workflows.
• Maintain and add new capabilities to the core ServiceNow platform to enhance functionality for tenants
• Collaborate closely with ServiceNow System Engineers and developers to design solutions, manage updates, and handle configuration changes or requests.
• Identify system deficiencies and propose effective solutions.
• Support ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement of processes, standards, policies, methodologies, and tools.
• Ensure development and production environments are reliable, reproducible, and consistently configured across Development, Testing, Integration, and Production stages.
• Participate in production support and provide end-user assistance as needed.
• Document testing procedures and maintenance activities related to system corrections.
• Research and adopt new technologies and standards to enhance platform capabilities.
• Design, develop, and modify enterprise-wide systems and applications software.
• Contribute to system and deployment planning while ensuring compliance with software standards.
• Evaluate hardware-software interfaces, operational requirements, and overall system characteristics to optimize performance.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Software Engineer SME Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

• TS/SCI with polygraph
• Minimum of sixteen (16) years of relevant experience, with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
• Minimum of five years, hands-on developing ServiceNow products
• Strong understanding of ServiceNow Development Platform including, but not limited to ITSM, ITOM, SPM, HR Module, Customer Service Management (CSM), Asset Management, Change Management, Customer Development, etc.
• Database Administration (Oracle or MySQL) experience
• Ability to efficiently and appropriately estimate work effort requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Able to adapt to a constantly changing environment
• Aptitude and willingness to work with variety of newer emerging technologies/tools as opportunities demand
• Ability to deliver enhance functionality, aid with new implementations, and provide continuous support within the scheduled time while preserving system integrity required
• High degree of initiative, creativity, and technical ability to function on this team required
• Ability to identify issues and implement corrective actions
• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) Preferred
• Experience with Java, Ruby, DevOps and DevSecOps
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Adaptability to a rapidly changing work environment.
• Willingness and aptitude to learn and work with emerging technologies and tools as needed.
• Capability to deliver enhanced functionality, support new implementations, and provide ongoing maintenance while maintaining system integrity.

• Skilled at identifying issues and implementing timely corrective actions.
• Commitment to pursuing the ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification while on the job.
• Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
• Current ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification.
• Experience with IT project management methodologies and familiarity with Scrum, Lean, Agile, and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Java and Ruby, as well as experience with DevOps and DevSecOps processes.
