Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute as an experienced developer on a government-focused program, delivering secure, scalable solutions across enterprise systems. You will design, develop, test, and deploy Windows applications and web services using .NET, C++, WPF, HTML/CSS, Python, and PowerShell, with AWS/Azure cloud deployments and secure coding practices.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with full-scope polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum six years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with .NET (C#, WPF/XAML, C++) and ASP.NET MVC Web API.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS, Python, PowerShell.
  • Cloud experience with AWS and Azure.
  • Experience with designing REST/SOAP APIs and secure coding standards.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Jira, GitHub, Jenkins, Confluence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop secure Windows applications and services using .NET and C++.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Windows apps, services, and web APIs.
  • Automate system administration tasks with PowerShell.
  • Manage cloud deployments on AWS and Azure with strong security practices.
  • Collaborate using GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, Confluence for CI/CD and docs.
  • Integrate Secure Token Service and DataHound for secure auth/data.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and deliver features iteratively.
  • Create comprehensive design docs and security artifacts.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Software Engineer - Senior: $154K

Pay commensurate with experience.

Software Engineer - Senior Responsibilities Include:
  • Contribute as an experienced Software Developer to a technology-focused program supporting a key government customer, delivering innovative engineering solutions across a range of enterprise systems.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy secure Windows applications, services, and web services using .NET (C#, WPF/XAML, C++), ASP.NET MVC Web API, HTML/CSS, Python, and PowerShell, ensuring integration with IIS and adherence to secure coding standards.
  • Develop and automate scripts using PowerShell for system administration, problem-solving, and security-related tasks, such as monitoring and mitigating vulnerabilities in Windows environments.
  • Manage cloud-based solutions on AWS and Azure, incorporating security best practices for deployment and access controls.
  • Utilize tools like GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, and Confluence for version control, issue tracking, continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD), and documentation, while ensuring secure configurations.
  • Working with customer‑specific IT tools, including Secure Token Service (STS) and DataHound, to integrate secure authentication and data management into applications.
  • Participate in Agile methodologies and ceremonies (e.g. sprints, stand‑ups, retrospectives) to deliver features iteratively.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including requirements gathering, design documents, technical writing, and A&A artifacts (e.g. security plans, test reports, and authorization packages).
  • Support the design and implementation of modern application technologies, including containerized solutions with orchestrated workflows operating across on‑premises environments and remote cloud services.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise IT standards and best practices.
  • Participate in the design, development, testing, and deployment of software components that integrate across systems and support a robust, mission‑critical infrastructure.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned
Software Engineer - Senior Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Active TS/SCI with full scope polygraph
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science (or a related field) is preferred, along with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience and proficiency in the following areas:
  • Bachelor's is required (or Master’s Degrees are preferred) with the following Skills:
  • TCP/IP transport network design and engineering, network routing protocols, advanced virtual networking technologies
  • Performing upgrades and performing routine network operations and maintenance (O&M).
  • Identifying and implementing INFOSEC and COMSEC security requirements for the network.=
  • Complex configuration management techniques and requirements for managing network systems
  • Network operating and maintenance concepts and methods used to troubleshoot network problems for LAN, WAN, VPN, SD‑WAN and VoIP
  • Cisco IOS, including switching, routing, segment routing and other technologies
  • Variety of network technologies and solution architectures
  • Broad understanding of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the networking field.
  • Knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art systems engineering principles and network design concepts
  • Virtualization experience (VDI & VMWare)
  • Security best practices and implementing firewalls and perimeter security measures including VPN technologies
  • Continuous integration, test automation and / or SecDevOps on iterative development projects
  • Agile Development methodologies
  • Cisco Certifications: CCNA or CCNP
  • Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including configuring and deploying to IIS.
  • Experience with requirements gathering, creation of design documentation, and technical writing
  • Must pass pre‑employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Docker, Vagrant, or similar technologies.
  • Proficiency in build automation tools like Maven and Jenkins.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and developing APIs and web services using REST, SOAP, or equivalent protocols.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, including Perl, Shell scripting, or similar.
