Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior software engineer to serve as a technical SME for mission applications under the Chinook program. You will design, develop, and maintain web applications and backend services, ensuring scalable, secure software across front-end and back-end layers.

You will provide technical leadership, craft architecture plans, and drive best practices while collaborating with government and contractor stakeholders. Requires TS/SCI and strong cloud/DevSecOps experience.

Qualifications

Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required with ability to pass a polygraph.
US citizenship required per contract.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field with 10–15 years of experience depending on degree.

Job description

Serve as the senior technical SME and technical advisor for mission applications under the Chinook program
Design, develop, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain modern web applications and backend services
Develop scalable, maintainable, and secure software across front-end and back-end tiers
Translate mission and technical requirements into software architecture and implementation plans
Provide technical leadership in software design, architecture, coding standards, code reviews, and engineering best practices
Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, microservices, data services, and system integrations
Build responsive, user-focused front-end interfaces using modern web development frameworks
Design and optimize database schemas, queries, data-access layers, and data-processing workflows
Troubleshoot complex application, integration, performance, and production issues
Support automated testing, CI/CD, and DevSecOps practices
Contribute to containerized and cloud-enabled application environments
Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and technical working sessions
Mentor junior and mid-level software engineers
Improve application performance, reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions based on mission requirements and technical feasibility
Collaborate with engineers, architects, mission experts, government stakeholders, and contractor stakeholders

Requirements

Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to successfully pass a Polygraph examination

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 12–15 years of prior relevant experience, or Master's degree with 10–13 years of prior relevant experience
Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JSON, REST APIs, Python, Java, JavaScript, and Go
Experience with React, Angular, Vue.js, jQuery, Spring Boot, Django, Node.js, Flask, or Svelte
Experience with multi-cloud architectures including AWS, IBM, Google, Azure, and Oracle
Experience with AWS services including S3, SQS, SNS, EC2, CloudFormation, and RDS
Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server
Experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch
Experience with Windows and Linux
Experience with Git
Proficiency with AWS (C2S/GovCloud) and Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and CloudFormation
Established experience building and deploying containerized services using Docker/Kubernetes
Understanding of DevSecOps tools including GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus, Keycloak, and Vault
In-depth knowledge of Agile/Scrum practices and tools including JIRA and Confluence
Understanding of customer-specific data types and standards such as OGC WMS/WFS, NSG, and GEOINT workflows
Preferred: UI/UX experience; Intelligence Community mission systems experience; messaging/event-driven architecture; observability, logging, monitoring, and application performance management; advanced certifications such as AWS Certified Developer, Solutions Architect, CISSP, or SAFe Agile
