Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior software engineer to support satellite ground software systems in a full-stack capacity. You will work across Go, Python, Postgres, Kubernetes/Docker, and AWS, delivering end-to-end software solutions including command-and-control and visualization tools.

A Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required. The role emphasizes leadership on technical problems, secure development practices, and collaboration with government customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 12+ years of development experience, or 10+ years with a Master’s Degree, or 6 years with a PhD.
• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at time of application.
• Full-stack software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Java 1.8+ and object-oriented design and implementation.
• Experience developing microservice-based applications.
• Experience with automated CI/CD pipelines, including unit testing, integration testing, and automation test frameworks such as Robot or Cucumber.
• Experience with version control systems.
• Solid experience in Bash scripting, Python, or other OOP languages in a Linux environment.
• Preferred: cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Preferred: ground systems domain knowledge and secure development practices.

Responsibilities

• Support development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of satellite ground software.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements development, modeling and design, testing, release, installation, and maintenance.
• Interface between analysts/programmers and users to ensure end-user needs are met.
• Develop test procedures to ensure user requests are fulfilled.
• Develop command-and-control software for hardware systems across interfaces.
• Develop visualization software for two- and three-dimensional environments with decision tools and user-centric interfaces.
• Take ownership of technical problems and provide implementation leadership.

Job description

• Support development, integration, deployment, and sustainment of satellite ground software
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit-to-CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance
• Apply technical expertise to solve complex integration problems
• Interface between systems analysts/programmers and users to ensure designs meet end-user needs
• Document product and service requirements
• Develop test procedures to ensure user requests are fulfilled
• Interact with Program Management and government customers
• Perform full-stack development at OS, platform, and mission-unique software layers
• Work across Go, Python, Postgres, Kubernetes/Docker, AWS cloud infrastructure provisioning, PKI, and static code analysis
• Develop command-and-control software for hardware systems, including sending commands, receiving acknowledgements, and integrating across interfaces
• Develop activity-planning and constraint-checking software to achieve mission outcomes
• Develop visualization software for complex, dynamic environments in two and three dimensions, with decision tools, intelligent context, and user-centric interfaces
• Take ownership of technical problems, make decisions considering project budget and schedule, and provide implementation leadership

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of development experience, 10 years with a Master’s Degree, or 6 years with a PhD
• 4 additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at time of application
• 4 years with Agile programs
• 4 years of experience with the design, build, and deployment of software products
• 4 years of experience producing software architecture documentation
• Full-stack software engineering experience
• Strong experience with Java 1.8+ and object-oriented design and implementation
• Experience developing microservice-based applications
• Experience working in automated CI/CD pipelines, including unit testing, integration testing, and automation test frameworks such as Robot or Cucumber
• Experience with version control systems
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Solid experience in Bash scripting, Python, or other OOP languages in a Linux environment
• Preferred: experience with Red Hat Linux 8 or similar Linux environments
• Preferred: experience deploying applications into cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

• Preferred: system troubleshooting, performance analysis, and recovery of production services
• Preferred: O&M experience and/or demonstrated bug resolution and incident response
• U.S. Citizenship required for positions with a government clearance
