Job summary

USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is seeking a Technical Support Specialist to ensure data accuracy and reliability across learning management systems, including Canva-like platforms for education. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience as substitute for minimum education.

  • Experience supporting online learning platforms (Canvas, Brightspace, Zoom) preferred.
  • Proficiency in software testing procedures, documentation, data integrity, and technical specification writing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage data integrity within learning management systems (Canvas, Zoom, Salesforce? and Brightspace) and maintain accurate records of student progress and materials.
  • Develop data management protocols, conduct regular audits for accuracy, consistency, and security of educational data.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and IT to define data requirements and standards for data entry across educational tech platforms.
  • Perform routine quality assurance on learning technologies, address usability, functionality, and accessibility issues.
  • Analyze user feedback and system performance to propose improvements for the learning experience.
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reports on data quality and system metrics for stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students on data-related inquiries and tech usage.
  • Coordinate with IT and vendors to resolve issues, apply updates, and ensure FERPA compliance.

Overview

The mission of the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is to improve the well‑being of vulnerable individuals and communities, advance social and economic justice, and eradicate pressing societal problems in complex and culturally diverse urban environments throughout Southern California, the nation, and the world. The School is seeking a Technical Support Specialist to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and quality of data‑driven processes, integrity, and technologies within the School of Social Work. This role involves overseeing data management, conducting quality assurance checks, and supporting the efficient functioning of learning technologies to enhance the educational experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the integrity of data within learning management systems such as Canvas, Zoom, Salesforce, and Brightspace, ensuring accurate records of student progress, course materials, and other educational data.
  • Develop and implement data management protocols for learning management systems, conducting regular audits and assessments to ensure accuracy, consistency, and security of educational data.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and IT personnel to define data requirements, establish standards for data entry, and streamline data collection processes for educational technology platforms.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance checks on learning technologies, identifying and addressing issues related to usability, functionality, and accessibility.
  • Analyze user feedback, system performance, and data trends to propose and implement improvements or enhancements to optimize the learning experience.
  • Create and maintain documentation, reports, and dashboards related to data quality, system performance, and key metrics for stakeholders within the School of Social Work.
  • Offer technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students regarding data‑related inquiries, troubleshooting, and utilization of educational technologies.
  • Collaborate with the IT department and vendors to resolve technical issues, implement updates, and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA).
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree, or combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education.
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years of related experience.
  • Preferred Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, education, or a related field.
  • Preferred Experience: 2 years of direct experience providing technical support for online learning platforms such as Canvas, Brightspace, and Zoom.
  • Proficiency in general knowledge of formal software testing procedures, documentation procedures, data integrity procedures, and technical specification‑writing procedures.
  • Knowledge of operating environments, desktop and project work‑plan applications, databases, client/server applications, internet web browser technology, and quality assurance/testing methods, tools, and techniques.

Compensation

The hourly rate range for this position is $56.03 – $62.00.
