About the role

We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer‑focused Software Application Support Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide hands‑on operational support to ensure the stability, availability, and performance of mission‑critical software applications.

You’ll serve as a key point of contact for technical issues, troubleshooting application errors, supporting users, and working closely with engineering teams to identify and implement solutions. The role requires a strong understanding of Linux environments, including the ability to start, stop, monitor, and diagnose services.

You’ll work with a variety of technologies, including Apache NiFi, Datarunner, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, AWS EC2, and CHAP, while helping keep applications running reliably in a mission‑focused environment.

This position also includes after‑hours on‑call support as needed, providing an important layer of operational coverage when issues arise outside of normal business hours.

What you'll do

• Experience maintaining, configuring, and supporting complex software applications in operational environments.
• Strong experience with Linux command‑line tools and systems administration.
• Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, knowledge bases, troubleshooting guides, and user resources.
• Experience with technologies such as Docker, MongoDB, Mongo Compass, Elasticsearch, AWS, and ContainerYard.
• Ability to proactively monitor application performance, system health, and database status to help maintain maximum availability and uptime.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including the ability to review error logs, identify root causes, and drive issues through resolution.
• Experience with Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence.
• Familiarity with web application architectures, web servers such as Apache, Tomcat, or IIS, and APIs.
• Familiarity with Apache NiFi, Dataflow, and mission data formats.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical teams and customers.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a commitment to driving issues to resolution and delivering a positive customer experience.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with a current polygraph required.
• 10+ years of Systems Engineering (SE) experience supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Five additional years of relevant Systems Engineering experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. the experience and attributes of the ideal candidate

The pay range for this role is:

150,000 - 190,000 USD per year (Annapolis Junction, MD)
