Job summary

Culper Technology in Maryland seeks a Network Systems Engineer to support mission-critical operations at the intersection of enterprise networking, cloud infrastructure, and real-time operations. You will help ensure availability, performance, and security of systems supporting national intelligence missions.

The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, a problem-solving mindset, and can quickly assess issues to take decisive action in a high-tempo environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; five additional years of relevant experience may substitute for degree.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with Maryland Polygraph required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and sustain high-availability network and cloud infrastructure supporting mission-critical systems.
• Analyze network traffic, logs, and telemetry to identify anomalies and mission impact.
• Provide real-time operational updates and clear technical reporting to mission stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate responses across network, cloud, and system layers.
• Develop remediation strategies to restore services and improve long-term resiliency.
• Support secure data flows and cross-domain solutions while maintaining IC security requirements.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, cybersecurity teams, and cloud architects to improve performance and reliability.
• Contribute to runbooks, SOPs, and automation initiatives to streamline operations.
• Stay current on evolving network architectures and cloud technologies.

About the role

We are seeking a highly capable Network Systems Engineer to support mission-critical operations within our customer environment. This role sits at the intersection of enterprise networking, cloud infrastructure, and real-time operations, helping ensure the availability, performance, and security of systems supporting national intelligence missions.

This is an operations-focused engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, monitoring and analyzing distributed systems, and keeping critical environments running smoothly. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a high-tempo environment where precision, responsiveness, and mission continuity matter.

You’ll bring strong technical expertise, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to quickly assess issues and take thoughtful, effective action when it matters most.

What you'll do

• Monitor and sustain high-availability network and cloud infrastructure supporting mission-critical systems.
• Analyze network traffic, system logs, and telemetry to identify anomalies, performance issues, and potential mission impact.
• Provide real-time operational awareness, incident updates, and clear technical reporting to mission stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate responses across network, cloud, and system layers.
• Develop and implement remediation strategies to restore services and improve long-term system resiliency.
• Support secure data flows and cross-domain solutions while maintaining IC security requirements.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, cybersecurity teams, and cloud architects to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Contribute to runbooks, SOPs, and automation initiatives that streamline operations and improve response times.
• Stay current on evolving network architectures, cloud technologies, and operational requirements within the customer environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, or related role supporting programs of similar scope, complexity, and mission.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field from an accredited institution. Five additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with Maryland Polygraph required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, switching, DNS, and network segmentation.
• Experience supporting real-time operations environments, such as NOCs, SOCs, or mission operations centers.
• Hands-on experience with network monitoring and analytics to ols such as Splunk, Elastic, Prometheus, SolarWinds, or similar platforms.
• Ability to analyze packet-level data, logs, and system metrics to troubleshoot issues and optimize performance.
• Working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and operational scripting using Bash, Python, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancing, and security groups.
• Experience with incident response, troubleshooting, and operational reporting in classified environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical issues, impacts, and recommended actions in a time-sensitive mission environment.

The pay range for this role is:

150,000 - 190,000 USD per year (Annapolis Junction, MD)
