Job summary

Familiar Machines & Magic seeks a Softgoods Developer to join our Industrial Design team in Boston (Woburn) with travel to LA. You will translate design intent into softgoods that integrate with the Familiar’s mechanical systems, cover patterning, construction, and prototyping from early concepts through production.

You will lead material development across textiles, foams, elastomers, trims, and bonding, balancing fit, durability, and manufacturability while collaborating with Hardware,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing technically integrated softgoods from concept through production.
• Deep hands-on expertise in pattern making, sewing, bonding, and softgoods prototyping.
• Experience with textiles, foams, elastomers, trims, closures, and their manufacturing characteristics.
• Familiar with 3D softgoods development tools (CLO 3D, Browzwear) and CAD software to develop patterns around complex geometry.
• Experience integrating softgoods with rigid mechanical systems, with attachment and durability insights.

Responsibilities

• Translate Industrial Design intent into softgoods constructions, patterns, materials, and assembly solutions.
• Build and iterate hands-on prototypes to evaluate fit, construction, range of motion, and tactile quality.
• Develop solutions across textiles, foams, elastomers, closures, trims, and other soft-material processes for manufacturability.
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineering, Operations, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to resolve soft-to-hard integration challenges.
• Carry softgoods solutions from prototype through supplier development and production, including documentation and manufacturing follow-through.
