Human Resources Specialist at NEW YORK STATE OPWDD

Duties Description

  • Manage an assigned caseload to link individuals with agencies, programs, and services that meet their psychosocial needs.
  • Conduct assessments with questionnaires, observations, and interviews to gather background information and prepare case histories.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team; present case management information and observations; contribute to developing and revising individualized service plans.
  • Assist in and participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
  • Coordinate with human service agencies regarding available services and help develop new or needed services.
  • Assist individuals with applying for services, completing paperwork, and conduct follow-up visits to ensure services meet their needs.
  • Advocate for individuals' needs, ensuring they receive appropriate services and their rights are protected; promote effective utilization of resources.
  • Prepare assessments, reports, letters, and maintain records.
  • Schedule medical, dental, and clinical services for individuals.

Coordinate caseload management with multidisciplinary staff for individuals with complex disorders and disabilities; may supervise Social Work Assistants and care staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Promotion: one year of service as a Social Work Assistant 1.

Open Competitive: Bachelor's degree in a human services field and two years of social work experience.

Substitution: Master's degree in a human services field can substitute for one year of experience.

Additional Comments

This role is part of the NY HELPS program, allowing non-competitive appointment without an exam, with future conversion to permanent status.

Preference given to impacted OPWDD employees; all employees must maintain Medicare and Medicaid eligibility. Additional benefits include loan forgiveness, paid holidays, leave, health insurance, retirement, professional development, and inclusion initiatives.
