Job description

Our client is a global B2B technology organization seeking an experienced Director of Social Media to lead its global social strategy and strengthen the company’s presence across key digital platforms.

This role will shape how the organization builds its brand, engages priority audiences, and translates business priorities, market trends, and company stories into compelling social content.

The Director will oversee the full social media lifecycle, including strategy, editorial planning, content development, executive thought leadership, community engagement, social listening, publishing, paid social, and performance measurement.

This is a highly strategic role that also requires a hands‑on practitioner—someone comfortable setting the direction while personally developing content, managing channels, and moving quickly when timely opportunities arise.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and manage the organization’s global social media strategy, editorial calendar, channel strategy, and budget.
  • Establish clear objectives, audience strategies, content priorities, and performance metrics across social channels.
  • Lead the development and execution of organic social content spanning corporate, product, customer, partner, employee, industry, and thought‑leadership topics.
  • Serve as a hands‑on content leader, personally writing, editing, publishing, and optimizing social content while directing broader programs and external resources.
  • Develop and manage executive social media and thought‑leadership programs that increase leadership visibility and reinforce broader business priorities.
  • Partner across Marketing, Communications, Sales, Product, Partnerships, and regional teams to identify stories, campaigns, launches, customer successes, and other opportunities for social amplification.
  • Translate complex business, technology, product, and industry topics into clear, engaging, audience‑relevant social content.
  • Develop differentiated social campaigns that strengthen brand visibility, increase engagement, and build relevance with key audiences.
  • Maintain and evolve the organization’s social voice, editorial standards, channel guidelines, and governance across markets.
  • Monitor relevant industry trends, breaking conversations, cultural moments, and market developments to determine where and how the brand should participate.
  • Lead community management and social engagement with customers, partners, prospects, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee social listening and monitoring to identify emerging conversations, brand sentiment, competitive activity, opportunities, and potential reputational issues.
  • Partner with Communications and senior leadership on social responses related to sensitive or high‑profile topics.
  • Support organic and paid social programs, including audience strategy, campaign development, targeting, optimization, and performance analysis.
  • Provide creative direction for social‑first content, including video, graphics, photography, animation, and other digital formats.
  • Manage agencies, freelancers, technology providers, creative partners, and other external resources.
  • Establish repeatable workflows, editorial calendars, approval structures, playbooks, and standards for social media planning and execution.
  • Define, track, and report on social performance, including audience growth, engagement, reach, share of voice, traffic, conversions, campaign performance, and other relevant business outcomes.
  • Use data, audience insights, social listening, and performance trends to continuously improve content and channel strategy.
  • Evaluate emerging platforms, technologies, formats, and capabilities and recommend where the organization should expand, reduce, or evolve its presence.
  • Maintain consistency in brand presentation, voice, and audience experience across social media channels.
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of experience in social media, digital marketing, content marketing, communications, or a related discipline, including experience leading complex B2B social media programs.
  • Proven experience developing and executing social media strategies for a global or multi‑market organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as both a strategic leader and hands‑on practitioner, including personally writing, editing, publishing, and optimizing social content.
  • Deep understanding of B2B audiences and the role social media plays in brand building, thought leadership, customer engagement, demand generation, partnerships, and commercial growth.
  • Strong expertise across major social platforms, particularly LinkedIn, including platform‑specific audiences, content formats, algorithms, and best practices.
  • Experience developing and managing executive social media and thought‑leadership programs in partnership with senior leaders.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex subject matter.
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to determine which trends, conversations, and opportunities are relevant to the brand.
  • Experience developing integrated editorial calendars and campaigns aligned with broader marketing and business priorities.
  • Strong understanding of organic and paid social strategy, audience targeting, campaign optimization, and performance measurement.
  • Experience with social media management, listening, monitoring, analytics, and reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, including establishing KPIs, evaluating channel and campaign performance, and translating data into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong creative judgment and experience directing social‑first creative across video, graphics, photography, animation, and other digital formats.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with senior executives and cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience managing agencies, freelancers, technology platforms, and other external partners.
  • Strong project and program management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns, stakeholders, deadlines, and content streams simultaneously.
  • Strong executive presence, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong judgment and problem‑solving ability in real‑time and high‑visibility situations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience managing global social media programs across multiple countries, regions, and cultures.
  • Experience managing external agencies and creative partners.
  • Experience within B2B technology, software, enterprise services, or another complex B2B environment.
