Job summary

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) seeks a Benefits Navigator to support Staten Island residents in accessing SNAP benefits. You will conduct pre-screenings, assist with applications and recertifications, and help clients gather and submit required documents.

The role is based at CHASI's Community Access Center and may require travel to CHASI locations. The position emphasizes clear communication, client-centered service, and confidentiality in a trauma-informed framework.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of relevant experience in benefits navigation, health or human services navigation, case management, client services, or related field.
• Ability to conduct interviews, review documentation, explain complex requirements clearly, and support clients through multi-step application processes.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Conduct SNAP pre-screening using approved tools and explain eligibility and next steps clearly.
• Assist individuals and families with completing and submitting SNAP applications and recertification materials.
• Review requirements with clients and help obtain verification documents.
• Conduct interviews and assessments to understand client needs and barriers.
• Track status of applications and provide reminders and updates to clients.
• Coordinate with supervisors and partners to resolve barriers in the process.
• Maintain complete, accurate client records and required data entries.
• Prepare or contribute to internal and funder reports on screenings and outcomes.
• Participate in outreach, presentations, and other Nutrition Navigators activities.
