Job summary

Celestica, Inc. is seeking a 2nd shift SMT Operator to assemble and inspect surface mount assemblies. The role involves handling solder paste, replenishing components, and following precise process documentation to ensure quality and throughput.

The candidate will work with engineers to set up NPIs, perform selective hand soldering, and participate in inspections including X-Ray. Training and certification in J-STD/IPC-610 are required for qualification.

Qualifications

• Must be able to follow process/documentation developed by Engineering to properly process lead or lead-free solder assemblies.
• Must pass J-STD & IPC-610 Certification to be qualified to perform the job duties.
• Fluent reading of blueprints and schematics is required.
• Experience in set-up, operation and troubleshooting of SMT equipment and microscope soldering is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and aligns solder paste stencils and applies solder paste to achieve an even, consistent screen print.
• Replenishes SMT components in pick-and-place, verifies positioning, values and polarity; completes process documentation.
• Follows documented routings and verifies program revisions on routers.
• Monitors floor stock (solder paste) and reports shortages/expired items to Supervisor.
• Performs periodic hand soldering and basic rework; uses scope and measuring devices as needed.
• Trains other employees and assists in orientation of new staff.
