Job summary

Johnson Controls in the United States seeks a building systems engineer to design, configure, and operate complete building control systems including fire, security, and low voltage subsystems. You will support field teams with technical submittals, BOMs, and diagrams while ensuring project quality and safety.

You will develop software, coordinate drawings, order materials, and assist in commissioning. Travel is required; competitive salary and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and minimum 3 years’ experience.
• Knowledge of construction or HVAC industry.
• Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
• Experience with JCI software programming.
• Experience integrating low voltage building sub-systems using various protocols (e.g., LON, BACnet).
• Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
• Advanced computer skills, especially drafting tools.
• Ability to travel regularly.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and operate complete building control systems including fire, security, and low voltage subsystems.
• Develops complex software programs, commissioning and solving to ensure proper operations of the building control system.
• Provides submittals to communicate design and operation to customers and Johnson Controls field installation team and subcontractors.
• Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
• Develop and tests software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements’ intent.
• Coordinates and creates necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
• Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects.
• Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
• Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required.
• Assists in validation of complete system functionality and solves problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
• Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
• Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
• Assists in performing site-specific training for owner/operator on the total building control system.
• Participates in the release meeting with project field team.
• Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
• May provide work directions to Systems Design Assistants.
• Adheres to safety standards with a high degree of employee and subcontractor safety.
• Travel is required for this role.
