New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is seeking a Trades Generalist to perform skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks across the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades.

The role covers a primary trade in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, motor equipment, small engine repair or masonry, and requires ability to design, plan, and execute projects while prioritizing park needs. Overtime and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson or equivalent training.
• Valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle to be operated.
• Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Trades Generalist.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must obtain Grade C Water Operators Certificate by end of probationary period or next class offering as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must complete Parks Sawyer Training Level 1 by end of probationary period or next class offering as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or complete lift training and fall protection training within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to supervise others and act independently with minimum supervision.
• Must be able to plan, layout, and diagnose maintenance problems and read plans and specifications.
• Must be able to operate heavy equipment, such as tractors, backhoes, and skid steers.
• Must be able to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions.
• May be assigned to work weekends/holidays during the operating season.

Responsabilités

• Design and execute plans needed to accomplish projects, including maintenance work such as building structures and repairs to roofs, windows, doors, and floors; and plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Prioritize repair projects to meet the immediate needs of the parks/facilities.
• Maintain adequate levels of supplies, tools, and equipment to accomplish tasks; make purchases following agency guidelines.
• Operate and complete daily maintenance for tractors, trucks, backhoe, skid steer and other equipment.
• Use and maintain small equipment such as generators, power washer, miter saw, table saw, hand tools, etc.
• Repair and maintain all facilities and equipment, including buildings and other structures.
• Install new piping and maintain water and sewer systems.
• Use a chainsaw to fell and remove trees.
• Assist with maintenance of roads, paths, and trails.
• May supervise lower-level staff; deployments may require overtime/travel.
