Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. offers a DoD SkillBridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic internship in Oklahoma City. The program provides supervised, hands-on training in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment while learning Kirby-Smith standards and customer service practices.

Qualifications

• Active-duty service member approved for participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program with 180 days or fewer remaining before separation
• Military experience in a mechanical, technical, or maintenance-related field preferred, such as wheeled or tracked vehicle maintenance, power generation equipment repair, or a similar military occupational specialty or rating
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Ability to read technical manuals and follow detailed repair procedures
• Willingness and ability to learn manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools and software
• Valid driver's license required; commercial driver's license preferred but not required
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks in a shop environment, including bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces
• Strong work ethic, commitment to safety, and professional communication skills

Responsibilities

• Communicates Kirby Smith's vision and core values; works as One Mission, One Team, One Plan.
• Performs diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair on diesel engines and hydraulics under supervision.
• Completes preventive maintenance and scheduled service on heavy equipment.
• Reads technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
• Uses diagnostic software and tools to identify issues.
• Documents work, parts, and labor in the shop system.
• Keeps a clean, safe work area per safety standards.
• Communicates professionally with technicians, managers, and customers.
• Participates in on-the-job training with experienced technicians.
• Maintains reliable on-site attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
